Chemin de Saint Jacques; Now in Google Earth format

I have now converted our 2005 track to Moissac (France) to beautiful Google maps format. You can download it (kml format, zipped) here. The raw kml file is here.

Thank you to gpsvisualizer.com for this preview:

a little map

You can see that we had various problems with our GPS; see summary in the table and the screenshot below.

Meanwhile, I am still looking for waypoints and tracks from Moissac to Roncesvalles.

Latest news (2006-June-03)
Grant Spangler just Googled and found me a file of waypoints along the GR65 in France. This is downloadable from the excellent site Niet naar Santiago en weer terug. The file is in kmz format so, if you have Google Earth, it should open automagically. It doesnt have the track, but it does have waypoints; all the way from Beekbergen (NL), via Moissac, to St Jean Pied de Port, and back to Vlissingen. It is complete with comments (in het Nederlands / in Dutch).
And I found some useful maps, at at another excellent site À VTT sur les chemins de Compostelle.
But that still leaves me looking for the coordinates (UTM etc) of the track onward from Moissac to the French border ... If you can help, please contact me

Heres a summary of the problems in the track above:

Date July 2005 Stop over Latitude N Longitude E Comments

12 Conques 44 35 57.4 2 23 53.7 Track saved. Many outliers around Conques. "Track saved" means, of course, that the Etrex discarded all its time stamps! (see e.g. Mapping Hacks page 260).
13 Noilhac 44 33 55.3 2 22 32.2 Track saved. First part identical with preceeding track
14 Livinhac le Haut 44 35 07.0 2 13 48.6 Track saved. A couple of outliers at 44 34 59.8N, 2 22 9.8E and at 44 39 46.4N, 2 15 32.7 E

19 Cahors 44 27 32.6 1 26 24.1 Track lost!
20 Lascabanes 44 20 48.1 1 18 16.5 Track saved. Outlier at 44 20 45.8N 1 18 14.8E
21 Lauzerte 44 15 18.9 1 08 20.9 Track saved.
23 Moissac 44 06 12.4 1 05 11.1 Active log, so times and altitudes not lost

As we walked down to Conques, Etrex went into crazy zig-zag mode:

Etrex goes mad

Although this appears to be a well-known fault of Garmin Etrex, I dont know of anyone who has found a reliable method of smoothing the zig-zags automatically
