A GroupA Group is the 'pop version' of X-Legged Sally and the Flat Earth Society, music with catchy rhythms but also a touch of ingenious madness, shrieking guitars and whooping vocals. The band emerged after the retirement of X-Legged Sally. It consists of Peter Vermeersch, Pierre Vervloesem and Thierry Mondelaers, all from XLS, with Anne Fontigny and Didier Fontaine added, who had already cooperated on Pierre Vervloesems album chef d'oeuvre. Live, A Group performed a lot of covers - but the songs they played were heavily transformed, sometimes almost beyond recognition, and mixed up with tunes from other songs. Peter Vermeersch compares it to taking apart a clock to see how it works, and then putting it back together again. The sound of A Group is a mix between cabaret, jazz and rock. Early in 1997 A Group recorded an EP, Dumb Lamb. The first album, aptly titled Volume I, was recorded in the winter of 1997. Volume I was followed in 2000 by a second cd, Volume 3. The song Porque Te Vas features the Flat Earth Society in their first studio appearance. At the moment, A Group is inactive, perhaps forever.
