*** VISIT *** *** BACK ***Hello, I am Xlara, a 'griffon bruxellois' and Anny's companion for nearly three years now. She's asked me to tell you more about her … tough task. Well, she told me that as early as 4, she was playing with saw, nails and hammer instead of dolls. She wanted to be a architect or a cabinet maker but it was not possible at that time so she became a executive administrative assistant in a international scientific publication.. When she left, she was offered a lathe and started turning. She's completely self-taught and her first piece was a lace bobbin. For some time, she was interested in photography (she got several ribbons), bobbin lace making, machine knitting and counted stitches tapestry. At the same she was restoring her house, she's good at woodworking, plastering, plumbing, tiling and electricity. She's not very keen at masonry. About 6 years ago, she built from scratch a small workshop (1.5 x 1.8m) and started making toys, money boxes, she bought a new small lathe and started turning miniatures. Now, we have a new workshop as small as the previous one but since it is in the garage, I am allowed to stay with her, help, support and look after her. I've got a place on the bench near her favourite Japanese tools. Although I regularly watch woodturning videos I'll do have to practise. Anny loves to turn small glasses, bottles, teapot, cups… she's made a bottle with its cork and 6 glasses each 2 mm high. She very rarely fails when turning or using the scroll saw but she losses the pieces in the dust and I help her find them. She hates doing things twice, when she has to, the first piece is perfect and the second is …. second. While I gently sleep on the bench (without snoring) I keep an eye on her and remind her of tea time cakes. Now she's making dolls' house with woods she cuts, planes and adjusts, it's time consuming but worthwhile. She would like to find friends who do as she does, so do I with my fellow dog. Please e-mail her or to me, I'll care she does reply ! See you ! Xlara ** E-mail ** anny.dubois@worldonline.be |
