Blues great Etta James covers a slew of influential artists on her upcoming CD, Matriarch of the Blues, due Dec. 12 on Windham Hill/BMG Records.

James tackles Bob Dylan's "You Got To Serve Somebody"; "Hound Dog," made popular by Elvis Presley; the Rolling Stones' "Miss You"; Al Green's "Rhymes"; Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Born on the Bayou"; and Otis Reddings' "Try a Little Tenderness" on the album, which also includes some original tunes of her own.

James is currently playing sporadic dates around California, including a date at the House of Blues in Los Angeles on Oct. 15.
