Brief Therapy refers to a focused
8 to 10 session intervention with
the specific aim of
interrupting and redirecting repetitive outmoded patterns of communication.
It is process-oriented and aims at developing
the awareness of central, disruptive, maladaptive interlocking systems
of interaction.
Since this non-productive pattern
operates largely on the unconscious level,
the client may become aware that there is something repeatedly going
wrong in his communication. This process might have once served
a protective function in the family but proves now to be most unadapted,
inhibiting intimacy and the open sharing of priorities, needs and
feelings, with this/her partner.
