sm restoration historySBSD00SD0433I got this SM as part of a deal buying another car (see my virtual garage for details).I was attracted to this car because it had only 50000 miles on the clock and with the car came all the maintenance bills including a fully stamped dealer service book. I imported the car and got it inspected and registered. After driving it around and marveling at the very good condition of the mechanicals (everything very tight with excellent performance) I started planning a small restoration of this SM. After a quarter of a century the original paintwork was getting a bit dull and some odds and end needed to be addressed. I lend the car to a friend temporarily without wheels and while he was waiting for a red light the car all of a sudden and without any warning blew a great cloud of smoke and the engine stopped. Diagnosis: outlet valve of cylinder 1 broke off. Due to time constraints the car has been sitting in my garage for a couple of years, but recently I started the restoration of this SM. The first item on the list is the engine. I had a spare engine in my collection of SM parts and this is the core that is going to be rebuild. The engine is with a specialist right know and I'll keep you informed on the rebuild at SMonline.. ![]() |
