Maserati engine

Citroën SM Maserati engine

The engine bloc is a lightweight construction with removable steel sleeves. The 6 cylinders are arranged in a 90° angle resulting in a very compact, lightweight powerplant. The forged steel crankshaft turns in 4 bearings. The combustion chambers are of hemispherical design with 2 valves in 90° V angle. The distribution is by 4 camshafts (each running in 3 bearings) driven by chains through an intermediary shaft. Fuel is supplied by Weber carburetors with later European models switching to Bosch electronic fuel injection.
