Welcome to our Playground
We will be happy to give you a tour trough our territory.

Let me introduce myself - My name is Fritz and I'll be your guide here.
During the tour you will also meet the other fuzzies - called Igor, Bono, Max and Happy

We ask everyone to play around during the tour...
after all, have you ever seen a healthy ferret that sits quietly and listens?

I am the senior ferret here, but I'm not that old yet! I was born on the 17th of april 1997 and a few weeks later I arrived at my current home.

About 6 months later a new ferret was introduced to me, he was called Jason but - unfortunately - he died 3 months later after a nasty fall in our cage. Our keepers did everything they could, and together with our veterinary Elly, they fought 5 days for his life. He died in the week between christmas and new year 1997. It was a very sad thing and I felt very bad about it. The days Jason was at the vet's place I cuddled up with the humans every day because I needed the warmth and company.

After a while they decided I needed a new friend and that's when they got Igor. He was born on the 28th of april 1998, and was such a small puppy!!! I dragged him all over the house and still regret it... he's much larger and stronger than me now and now I get dragged along sometimes. Luckily the humans intervene if we play too rough! Igor is a male albino and he is very pretty, at least, that's what the jury of the BFL
said when they awarded him first place in the albino puppy class (under 6 months).

We all are very proud of his trophee!

Then on march 15th we were asleep when the humans arrived with a very dirty and smelly ferret they called Bono. He was adopted by the humans because friends called and told them he was left at their house.
These friends have 8 fuzzies already so it was not possible to take another one in. The humans couldn't stand they idea of Bono going to a shelter so they covered their noses and took him home. After a week he went to the vet to be neutered and get all his necessary shots and now he's a part of our furry family!

Bono was born around february 1998, but an exact date is not known. That makes him almost as old as Igor, and it clearly shows : they are both male albino's, and they just love eachother! Playing rough is their favorite, and sometimes I get dragged into their wild games - but I'm not so fond of it and I try to follow them from a safe distance. I do love to attack them by surprise and then get away as fast as possible before all hell brakes loose ;-)

may 1, 1999 - 22h46
On may 1st 1999, around 21h10 Igor passed away, and he will be in our memory forever, as the playful and happy ferret he was. We will dearly miss his lickings, noise and weirdness, he was the best in being a real ferret, always first one to get out of the cage, steal shoes and trash the playground. We know the humans did the best thing by putting him to sleep altough it doesn't become easier for any of us or them.
Let us play in silence.

19 new photographs online, Bono's pictures are online,
so you can take a look there too, the Ferret-Card Service has been updated and enlarged... 16 Ferret-Cards to choose from now!

And another 6 photographs of me (Fritz) and my partner in crime, Bono, have been added by the humans... and still they don't have any hard proof of our "activities" :-)

The year 2000...

Actually this has not been an exceptional year. The humans worked all year, played with us and taken very good care of us. The only thing worthwhile mentioning maybe is the fact that I kept on loosing weight. I had been having a lot of trouble with my belly, always trying to scratch and bite it, and while this is not uncommon for us where we're switching fur (twice a year) combined with the fact that I started playing rougher with Bono, often hurting him real hard, my humans quickly noticed and took me to the vet. Elly, that's our vet, examined me and she diagnosed an enlarged spleen.

A few days later I was sheduled for an operation, and my human was even more freightened and scared as I was. And it was MY belly they would be operating on! He dropped me off on a thursday evening, and the enlarged spleen was removed on friday around 10 'o clock. I was recovering very well, and friday evening my human came to pick me up again. He placed me into a carrier for the next days, so that I didn't have to, or could climb ladders and such things. I slept for the next 24 to 36 hours, while being checked on very regulary. Bono scratched my carrier quite a few time 'coz he could smell me, but he didn't know what was going on. Finally on sunday I was able to walk around a bit more and even tried to climb into our large cage to sleep with Bono, but my human decided to keep me in the carrier for one last night, to make sure everything was healing OK. Monday evening he moved me from the carrier to the cage, and I felt a lot better.

A few weeks later I was fully recovered and playing around again. The fact that it was a rather expensive operation that could possibly go wrong didn't keep my human from taking the right descision. I still thank him for it! Lick, Lick!

The year 2001!

Since a few months it's just us two (Fritz & Bono) and our owner who calls himself ServMe on the internet. Funny name, coz he ends up serving us all the time!

We'll be getting a new comrade in the coming months since ServMe's sister and dad have promised to get him a new ferret for his X-Mas & Birthday, but our servant/human said that he wouldn't take a new ferret just now since he ain't got the time to spare for the moment. I think it's sad, 'coz we two can take care of that new carpetshark ofcourse, but I can understand it.
One thing is pretty sure yet : it will very probably be a male ferret, and it'll be coming from a shelter, 'coz there are such nice playful ferrets there, that deserve a break as well. I think our human will take us along, so that we can pick out our own new friend!

March 3rd 2001

It has happened!!! Yesterday our owner went to the Belgian Ferret League to adopt a ferret that was brought in, but guess what?! Today we (that would be Bono and me) went along to the shelter and it turns out it's not 1 ferret, but two! Actually we were looking for 1 extra fuzzy to play with, but now we got an extra one :)

How come it is two extra fuzzies instead of one? Coz the two newbies are father and son. They are 4 years and 3 years old, and could not be separated, so our owner got them both. Their names are Babou and Camel, but I think he might change those names... altough he is not too sure yet. Anyway, the three of us went out to check on the new ferrets and we sniffed a while, but all went well, and only 5 minutes later, ServMe dropped the four of us in our carrier and head back off. He bought some nice toilet thingies for us too, and we got a new sleeping thingy from ServMe's sister! Thanks!!! It's really nice...

As soon as we came home, the two newbies had to explore their new home and we played a bit. During that play Camel, actually bit ServMe's sister. Not really hard, but he bit nonetheless. Ouch... wrong bet! These two don't know that biting is no good! Bono and I, we don't bite no one, coz we know that is a very very bad thing to do. What's even more... only minutes later Camel took a nasty bite at ServMe, and he tought he could get away with it, but man... Camel was very surprised that he didn't pull away. After a brief but strong punishment Camel was placed into our cage to cool off. A short while later the three of us joined him coz we needed some sleep.

We've played even more and no more biting now. It seems it was just a single misbehaviour of Camel, and now he's sweet again. Must have been scared. ServMe just got the digital cam, so expect new photographs of the fab four in the coming hours/days :)

The first photographs are up. Camel is now called Max (since he is the biggest of us) and Babou is called Happy coz he has such a happy attitude and look over his face all the time.

It's so funny that ServMe can't tell Max and Happy from eachother on photographs yet. They can be easily identified by their size when we are playing, but it's hard on a photo. Just minutes ago he discovered two major differences between Max and Happy, apart from the size. Happy has a darker nose than Max, and Max has a rather distinct dark triangle on the top of his head. I ofcourse, being the smartest ferret around, spotted this seconds after meeting these two newbies, but hey.. ServMe is only a human, we can't expect too much from him!

Tonight it's off to Elly (our vet) for Max and Happy to get all the shots they need. It seems (at least according to their passports) that they didn't get all the shots they needed the last two years, so ServMe will not hesitate and get them vaccinated right away! Luckily Bono and I get our shots each year, so we are protected. It's not funny going to the vet, but Elly is very very sweet and is used to working with ferrets, so it really is no big deal.
