About me...

Born in 1964 in Belgium, I discovered my interest for drawing only in 1996, when I followed a first drawing course in order to relax myself after a pretty stressed professional period.
I enjoyed drawing more and more over time and have been encouraged for 2 years by an excellent teacher, a 64 years old advertising designer that unfortunately died in dramatic circumstances recently. When drawing today, I regularly think to him and regret his absence.
You will have noticed that my pseudo is "Schninkel". Schninkel is the hero of the famous Rosinsky & Van Hamme comic. It is a little slave, made free by circumstances, that would be so happy to only enjoy life (and his girlfriend) but he is driven by a destiny that constantly brings his dream out of reach. In fact, an illustration of what we all are somewhere...
My drawings are the illustration of what a world would be when dreamed by a Schninkel. Soft, friendly, beautiful , optimistic and joyful. This may seem naïve, in fact it truly is ! However, it is my way to look to these pretty complex and interesting creations called "human beings".
My inspiring master in this respect has been Pierre Joubert, French artist, mainly Youth Illustrator (see image). For more than 60 years now, this extremely talented drawer & painter has consistenly showed his trust and belief in the human being. His art is optimistic, enthousiast, beautiful , sensual and humoristic. It is like a childisch dream, so far from our modern strive for intellectuality and rationalism.
Since my interest for drawing, I was inspired by other artists that I discoverd over time but today I am looking after my own way and expression.
