SABBATHIZER, Belgium's very own Black Sabbath Tribute Band, kicked off with a first gig at Waregem (Belgium, October 2007) as opening act for another Belgium tribute band called Mötorheat. The band members are well-weathered musicians who grew up with the hard rock music of the 70ies and the 80ies and finally got together to do what they've always been wanting to do : play Black Sabbath.

In 1985 guitarist Philip Devreese met bassist Franky Calcoen and the two formed a band called Catweazel. At the same time they were also doing a blues-rock thing called Barrelhouse where Franky played the drums.

Catweazel split up in 1996 and while Philip went to play with The Happy Sorrows, Franky got on the road as a drummer with canadian guitarist Robin Lindberg. From now on Franky was concentrating on the drums and spent 4 years studying at the Antwerp Jazz Studio.

In 1999 Philip went on playing with a cover band called Crystal Moon and Franky did some freelance work with local jazz combos.

Only in 2007 the two got together again and decided that the time was right for a new joint venture which is now Sabbathizer. Drummer Erwin Vantyghem, who had been playing for 18 years with blues-rock act The Refugees, showed immediate interest in the project and this completed the band's instrumental section.

Finding a good singer always seems to be the hardest part for any band and especially for Sabbathizer where the guys intended to do more than just Ozzy'stuff.. so out of the blue comes Glenn Devos, a metal singer who had just quit his tech-metal band Artrach.

This guy had also done some Black Sabbath stuff in a metal-coverband called GSD and his powerful voice enables Sabbathizer to do a lot of songs from the DIO-era.

Sabbathizer's ready to go !
