Recipes from my PMI Article "Piece de la Resistance": Terra-sigillatas: Information on how I make my Terra-sigillata is available on my web site at http://www.MyPots.com/resource.htm Diluted Terra-sigillata - 10 Parts Water - 1 Part Terra-sigillata - You can adjust proportions to taste. Soda Solution: - Bring 1 litre of water to a boil - Stir in Sodium Carbonate (Washing Soda) until the solution can no longer be made clear by stirring. The hot solution will be saturated at this point. - Let the solution cool to room temperature - Pour the clear liquid off the top of the cooled solution. The clear liquid will be your saturated solution. - Sodium Ash, Salt or any other form of Sodium can be used Soda and Terra-sigillata: - 10 Parts Water - 1 Part Terra-sigillata - Add 1 Part Soda Solution to this mix - You can adjust proportions to taste. Diluted White Glue: - 50% White Glue - 50% Water - You can adjust proportions to taste. Diluted White Glue and Terra-sigillata: - 50% White Glue - 50% Terra-sigillata - You can adjust proportions to taste. Robert Fournier’s Hot Wax Recipe (via Steve Mills) This is a great hot wax and safer because you only have to put the can of wax in very hot water to liquefy it. - 1 Part Old Candles - 1 Part Light Machine Oil, Sewing Machine Oil, Bicycle Oil or Household Oil - Heat oil and candles on the low setting on a hot plate until the candles have melted then fish out the wicks with a wire or paperclip - You can adjust proportions to taste. - Glaze is best resisted while the wax is fresh. - I prefer 2 parts oil to 1 part candles but this is pretty soft and tends to transfer to fingers and then other parts of the pot if you are not careful. St Spyridon’s CMC Gum Recipe: - 15 Grams Dry CMC Gum (or VeeGumCer) - 500 Millilitres of Water - Mix well in a blender or with a stick blender - Leave overnight - This can be added to under/over-glaze colors to taste to improve brushability and reduce smudging. - Dilute to sprayable consistency with water and spray over glaze to stabilize and harden the surface.
