Japanese in mIRC by roxfan version 1.0 Part 1: reading Japanese (no extra programs required) 1. Go to Tools-Font or press Alt-V 2. Select any font that supports Japanese, e.g. MS Mincho/MS Gothic. Set script to "Japanese". Note: don't select fonts begining with @, or you'll have letters turned 90 degrees. 3. Go to File-Options (Alt-O), there IRC-Messages and turn on "Perform JIS/SJIS Conversion" 4. That's all! Now you can read japanese text said by others. Part 2: writing Japanese Note: Default Windows 2000/XP Japanese IME is NOT working with mIRC, because it's Unicode (16-bit), and mIRC can process only 8-bit input, such as JIS/Shift-JIS. 1. If you have a japanese text editor, e.g. JWPce or NJStar WP, you can type text there and paste into mIRC. Just make sure that clipboard format is set to Shift-JIS. JWPce: Utilities-Options (Ctrl-O), File/Clipboard tab, Clipboard Options-Export (choose Shift-JIS) NJStar WP: somewhere in Options :) 2. If you don't have any editor, or want to type the text directly in mIRC, you'll need to get NJStar Communicator. There is 30-days demo version available on www.njstar.com, but it seems it doesn't expire :) 3. To input japanese text in mIRC right-click NJStar icon and select "NJStar Japanese input". On appeared toolbar click rightmost button ad select "Japanese Shift-JIS". Now you can type in japanese! :) NJStar tips: 1. To switch between japanese/your default keyboard layot press Ctrl.
