Let's chat with Tor and Jakob, respectively guitarist and drummer in the Swedish thrash metal band OPPRESSION !



1° Who are you ? Tell me more about your lifes ! 
Jakob : Well we are pretty much ordinary guys with huge interest in music. I work at a warehouse, tor is unemployed. All money we earn is spent on records. I turn 20 in a month. The other guitarist is 20 and our bassplayer is 18.
Tor : Like most other bands, we are very down-to-earth. I'm 19 years old. We're living in the south of Gothenburg, southern westcoast inbreads in a city called Falkenberg. Ablaze My Sorrow and By Night are from here too. It's a very good town for metal even if it's just around 35000-40000 people who live here, many chances to play live and healthy competition between the bands. Everybody wants to be better than the other but is still very supportive. We're friends with all the bands here in town I think.


2° Tell me more about your journey into the metal world ! (first loves, evolutions, deceptions, satisfactions, etc.)
Jakob : I got into metal through Entombed, they are still my favorite band.
Tor : We'll, I listened to Alice Cooper and stuff like that in the begining. Then I "found" Metallica, Iron Maiden and stuff like that. Then it all went apeshit and I started to listen to every distorted guitar I could find. I went through black metal, doom, fucking gothenburp "death" metal and shit like that. It wasn't until I started to real thrash that I found out what metal is all about . Attitude, adrenaline, ass-whoping !
Jakob : yeah I can´t listen to all that wellproduced, polished, melodic metal. It has to be a lot of feelings in the music.
Tor : If metal don't get my heart pumping and all that, it's no good.
Then I can listen to some other lame shit.





3° According to you, can we speak about a NEW WAVE OF SWEDISH THRASHMETAL with bands like OPPRESSION (of course), LETHAL, LEPROSY, TERRORAMA, SLAVATOR, etc. ?
Tor : Shure, I love it ! LEPROSY fucking rules !
Jakob : Yeah that sounds cool, don't forget CORRUPT.


4° Why the hell is 80's thrash metal so popular in Sweden ?
Tor : I don't have a clue, since it rules I guess !
Jakob : all the kids who got inte to THE HAUNTED at first are discovering their roots now.
Tor : Exaclty, bands like HAMMERFALL, THE HAUNTED, IN FLAMES are importat in one way. They make kids listen to metal and later look for better alternatives. I loves those bands a couple of years back except for HAMMERFALL.
Jakob : yeah THE HAUNTED and all of those band are like marijuana. a gateway to really heavy shit. Also now when EXODUS, OVERKILL and all of them are making new record, people find the old ones as well.


5° Could you make me an indeep OPPRESSION biography ?
Tor : The first steps towards what is today were taken back in 1999. Me and some friends started out to jam. But it was first in 2002 that Oppression was formed. Jakob and our former guitarist Nicke joined at this moment. We recorded 3 demos together and played as much gigs as we could. The first demo, Violence will dominate was recorded in 2003. Then one demo has come out each year. Everything worked out fine until the recording of T.P.A.S., That was the time when all these problems with Nicke showed up. Then he quit the band and we were on our own. But now Olof Wikstrand from Corrupt/Leprosy has joined as a "session" vocalist.


6° Give me your feelings about :
-) METALLICA :
Jakob : One of the greatest metal bands ever
Tor : I agree, James Hetfield is a fucking god. All they way up to 1988 they did not record one bad song. Then the good songs are harder to find.
Jakob : they have one of the worlds lamest drummers though.
Tor : And Kirk Hammet is not even close of being one of the 10 best guitarist.
Jakob : That's inspiring in some weird way. they are shitty musiscians, but still one of the best bands ever... gives me hope !
-) SLIPKNOT :
Tor : They work in small doses, same thing here. They are doing a good job getting kids to listen to metal.
Jakob : yeah they have a couple of catchy songs, but nothing that sticks.


7° You seem to be pretty open minded regarding your feelings on a band like SLIPKNOT ... legions of metalheads would spit on the band's grave ...
Tor : Yeah, I don't get that. They get kids to open up to blastbeats, moshing and all that. What do the people that complain do? Sittng around, jerking of to a jellow bathory goat?
Jakob : I´m open minded to all sorts of music. Too many metalheads just complain as soon as a band is played on radio and sells more records.
Tor : Be glad that metal is alive and well instead !






8° Now I'd like you to make me your all times metal top 5 ! And I need a REAL comment concerning each of those records ! Take you time !

9° You released 3 demo's in the past. What are your plans now ? An album ?
Tor : Another demo if not a label comes by and gives us a shitload of money...
Jakob : Since we dont have a vocalist right now, we are not really sure. an album is off course what we want, but our economy is not enough. We are actually starting to plan for a two or three track demo but it is the vocalist thing that is the main issue right now.

10° What are your feelings on 09/11, Madrid, London, etc. and on the whole terrorism problem ?
Tor : Terrible ! They are fucking blinded with discusting religion.
Jakob : Violence breeds violence. I think that if usa stop geting involved in the first place all the time, the world would be more peaceful but I also think that the terrorist should get the fuck off civilians.
