50 Frank 1935

Welcome on the part about the Belgian Franc... You know, that coin that had legal tender in Belgium from 1832 till 2002 and that was replaced by the Euro. I collect these Belgian Francs from when I was 12 years old and I probably will be busy for quite a while. The Belgian Franc is collected by many collectors and is hence not an unknown to the average Belgian collector. It was hence not my intention to make another site about the same. There are already very good sites about the Belgian Franc. If you want to, you can find the necessary links in the link section of this site. I have however added an overview of the different series of Belgian Francs that were minted during history to give the international numismatist an overview of our magnificent Belgian Franc. Quite logically, this happens by reign of the different Kings.

Next, I will discuss the value determination of Belgian coins. Obviously, this depends on three important factors: the rarity, the quality and the patina of the coin. This seems crystal clear for the diehard numismatist but I have to observe that this is not always so clear for the starting collector. Starting collectors are quite often the victim of cheating sellers who are selling inferior coins as it were the most magnificent and most expensive coins on earth. The result is often that disappointing starting collectors are abandoning. With this site I want to give a humble contribution in order to make clear what the most important issues are for the starting collector of Belgian coins.

Finally this part about the Belgian Franc also covers a small overview of Belgian patterns. Collecting patterns is really something special because they are often so rare. Fortunately, collecting Belgian patterns is not as expensive as for example collecting American patterns. This does however not mean that we rarely see Belgian patterns. Therefore I've put the patterns which are in my possession on this site where they are probably of more use than in my bank's safe. As you will see, some of these specimens are magnificent.
