Remembering the spirit

 

Of related articles from European Union Costitutional Treaty;

Of the European Convention for Human Rights and the foundamental freedon;

Of the Bologna Declaration (June 19th, 1999);

Of the Eichstatt Declaration issued by FUCE (May 2004);

O the Declaration n°11 attached to Final Act of the Amsterdam Treaty, stating that the European Union esplicitly respects and does not prejudicate statutes which local Churches, religious communities or societies and philosofical or non confessional organizations adopted in force of national law systems;

 

 

Considered that

 

— Under particular circumstances a difference of juridical treatment may be justified, when a charateristic linked to the religion or cultural beliefs builds a professional and resolute need (European Council Directive 2000/78/EC of Council, issued on november 27th, 2000);

 

— Into this perspective, Member States could maintain or plan some specifical rules concerning to main professional needs required to start up professional business linked to religious or personal beliefs;

 

— A comparative analysis of the juridical status concerning Oriented Universities may highlight that actual rules used across Europe may reveal more interesting than other regulations used elsewhere and that some juridical forms may be used as reference useful to be adopted or implemented;

 

 

Remember that

 

— Oriented Universities are a traditional point intended to cultural training and instruction directly bounded into the european educational past (and we want to pont out that in Europe there are 149 Oriented Universities, 30 of them joined this Conference);

 

— Oriented Universities are a genuine and important momentum for academical freedon granted by Treaties;

 

— They assemble an important number of teachers and students, and in the same time do not represente neither reminiscences of the past nor an eccentricity in an academical landscape driven by main european and global guidelines;

 

— They mey play an essential role which may be valorized and renewed in a multicultural and pluralist society thanks to the characterizing balance between an open identity and spirit on a less homogeneous society but based on common values founding the european building;

 

— In order to pursue this goal, relations with other kind of Universities have been certainly reinforced;

 

— Oriented Universities system may help to religious, philosofical or cultural minorities integration into the European landscape based on the main Union values.

 

 

Ask to European Union

 

To preserve and grant cultural heritage represented by Oriented Universities as intended to promote scientifical and technical progress, and to respect cultural and linguistical differences;

 

 

Invite Oriented Universities

 

— To promote, according to European Costitutional Treaty, article II-51, the dialogue between European Union, Churches and philosofical organizations, both using links between religions and beliefs through philosofical, theological, historical and compared religious rights teaching, and through a stabile net linking interested Universities, developing both, Forums and actual networks as, for example, FUCE;

 

— To reinforce specifical teachings on subjects concerning European Union, and generalist teachings about common historical heritage and common European values;

 

— To continue to reinforce the heritage of european university in front of full throttle excess of a training exclusively based on unpersonal relations and on teaching technologies (e-learning);

 

— To contribute to creation or reinforcement of a true european universitary community lasting over national, linguistic, religious and philosofical boundaries in order to obtain a qualitative education able to start up cooperation between member countries respecting their responsabilities about subjects teached and educational system organization, also intendet to respect their cultural, religious and linguistic diversities;

 

— To develop a european teaching landscape also throughout member countries languages learning and diffusion, and common universitary teaching of ‘european’ subjects;

 

— To enable students and teachers move across Europe, empowering Socrates programs and Jean Monnet professorships;
