When Ide was asked what would be the theme for her new series in Shuukan Josei she answered "The eternal Japanese theme: The war between the daughter-in-law and the mother-in-law."

Youko was afraid of this kind of war ever since she was a child and had seen how her mother was driven to despair by it. Now she has to face it herself and the kind of mother-in-law Youko gets is the most devilish of all. Youko's struggle for her happiness will be cruel and dramatic in this unfortunate house where nobody is what he seems and suicide is used as a punishment, but it will be even harder for her not becoming one of "them" - one of those daughters-in-law who eventually turn into the spitting image of their mothers-in-law just for the sake of revenge, a Rasetsu.

Although this series was serialized in 1988, it actually boomed in 1998 when the tankoubon were published and a very popular tv-drama was done. This series also made from Ide the Queen of Ladies Comics. Rasetsu no Ie is not only a very demonish and tragic story but also a very psychological story portraying the vicious circle of a victim becoming the perpetrator. She shows also how to break out of this circle... and there is only one way: Face your fears and fight them, at any costs! But don't resort to physical violence - you might become a Rasetsu too... {DHI}
