Hamel, the son of Pandora and the demon Chestra, who came out of the box, is the only hope of salvation the world has. Unfortunately, he's a self centered, easily amused jackass. The others who are attempting to keep him behaving himself are the talking crow Oboe, the kind girl Flute, his childhood friend Raiel, and occasionally, his twin sister Sizer, who is also a general for the armies of evil. Hamel's main weapon of defense is his Ultra Special big violin, which everyone seems to mistake for a double bass. As he plays upon it, he controls the emotions of those who listen; he can make a towering ogre feel warm and compassionate... or strip naked and dance. Or he can turn Flute into a revenge seeking, firy aura heaving battle god. Raiel carries a piano, which he uses to a similar effect, though Raiel tends to be distracted by lengthy rants about "Love"; something Hamel finds endlessly amusing, since Raiel is so hopeless his nose explodes in a shower of blood at the very thought of sex. The party soon meets up with Flute's mother, Queen Horn, who is waging a war against the forces of darkness and the kings of Hell's army... As a manga, The Violinist of Hamelin swings wildly and unexpectedly between highly detailed artwork, tense horrific drama (befitting to a plot and a world as grim as this) on the one hand -- and a cartoonish, exaggerated, SD art style, while the characters completely ignore the plot in favor of going off on comic riffs on the other hand. {EIR}
