Takeuchi Naoko 武内直子

[born: 15 Mar 1967, Yamanashi-prefecture, Koufu; bloodtype: A]

In September 1986, Takeuchi Naoko won Koudansha's 2nd New Manga Artist award with Love Call, published in Nakayoshi Deluxe. It was in 1991 that she decided to do something different for the seasonal Run-Run (billed as Nakayoshi's younger sister magazine). Takeuchi had an interest in live-action heroes and decided to create a masked girl who wore a variation of the Japanese schoolgirl's uniform, the serafuku セ―ラ―服 (sailor suit).

She called her "Sailor V" and she debuted in August 1991. This story became popular, and TV Asahi approached her, but wanted to have a team. She created a new lead, Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon debuted in the February 1992 Nakayoshi, winning the 17th Koudansha Manga Award in 1993. The TV anime came out March 6th 1992. Sailor V joins the team as Sailor Venus, but Takeuchi still writes new Sailor V material for Run-Run.

Takeuchi has said that she most admires mangaka who draw for weekly shounen magazines, and that she relieves stress by driving around in "Poru-poru-kun".

In 1997, Takeuchi started a new manga serial called "PQ Angels" on Nakayoshi, but it was ended abruptly after four issues because Takeuchi decided to stop working for Nakayoshi.

Is married to Togashi Yoshihiro and has currently retired from making manga. She did make a comeback in 1998 on Young You with "Princess Takeuchi Naoko's Return-to-Society Punch!!"

Tsukino Usagi learned from Luna, a mysterious black cat, that she can transform into Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon teams up with Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus, and they search for the Princess of the Moon, Serenity, and fight for love and justice against Queen Beryl, their enemy.

Part 2: From Neo-Toukyou comes Chibi Usagi, the future daughter of Usagi and Mamoru, and she came to Earth to ask for Usagi's help to fight against Wiseman, who wiped out Neo-Toukyou.

Part 3: The very cool Sailor Uranus, the very elegant Sailor Neptune and the very beautiful Sailor Pluto turn up! This manga has excellent art, very interesting story, is fun and easy to read, and has good sense of humour and style. Strongly recommended. The implied lesbian relationship between Sailor Neptune and Uranus is intentional.

Part 4: No more planets left in our solar system, it is time to seek sailors from outside: sailor stars.

Now that Sailor Moon has ended, everyone expects to see the sales figures of Nakayoshi to plummet just as Shounen Jump did after Dragonball.

The winner of the 17th annual Koudansha manga award in 1993.
