A dictatorial government, centered around the planet called the Teito ("Empire City"), ruled the countries of the star system. Through the inner turmoils of the Teito and other inter-stellar wars, specialists of war called the "Kenshi" ("Swordsmen") have developed. By the strength, these Kenshis are ranked. And the 5 highest ranked Kenshis are called the "Seibusyou"s ("Holy-Martial-Warriors" comes close). Ran Ibuliis was now the strongest Kenshi of the Teito. But in order for him to attain the rank of Seibusyou, he had to defeat one of them. The Great Monk of the Teito's Sen-Jin-Guu has dictated Ran to find and kill the one Seibusyou who had separated from the Teito. Only then can he acquire the rank. Thus Ran has come in search of the Kin-no-Seibusyou (the Golden Seibusyou who carries the sword Shiranuimaru) to Izanami, a grave satellite. There, the battle between Ran and Seibusyou Le'gion ensues. Ran seemingly succeeds in hurting Le'gion and Le'gion tosses Ran the sword he wants. Ran cannot understand how Le'gion can just give him the rank that he so desperately wants. With his power, he can even control the Teito. Why won't he do so? "As you've thrown away everything and chose the path of the sword, so do I have something I love and protect," Le'gion answers.

Taking back Shiranuimaru to Seijinguu, Ran is permitted to rise to the rank of the Golden Seibusyou. A new Golden Seibusyou is about to be born, claims the Seijinguu. But Ran cannot accept the rank. He cannot believe that he has outskilled Le'gion and he returns to Izanami to confront Le'gion once again.

"You could've killed me. Why didn't you do so? Tell me the truth if you consider me a Kenshi!" Ran demands as he tosses the Shiranuimaru back to Le'gion. Le'gion apologizes and tells Ran that he was very similar to his master who lay in the grave. The master who he gave his Arch-Angel, his one and only master. "That's your personal reason. It has nothing to do with me," tells Ran. "Understand, I won't leave this planet until I succeed in killing you, so be prepared." Le'gion replies, "That's your personal reason. I don't mind. Only... an angel lies asleep here. So as not to awake him/her, do so ... quietly..."

Thus begins the saga of Ran and Le'gion, their friendship and the turmoil of the Teito that results in a Star System War. {MNI}
