Shiina Takashi 椎名高志
[born: 24 Jun 1965, Oosaka-metropolis; bloodtype: ?]
This is his pseudonym, real name not known (to me at least). Very popular with
his GS Mikami series for which he has received the Shougakukan Manga Award.
- GS Mikami Gokuraku Daisakusen!! [Ghost Sweeper Mikami]
serialized on Shounen Sunday, 1992-present
39 volumes @ Y400
Mikami Reiko is a Ghost Sweeper who runs a business in getting rid of
ghosts for payment. She has two assistants: Yokoshima Tadao, a stupid,
lecherous boy working for a daily pay of Y250; Okinuchan, a friendly ghost
they met in the first story. A plethora of other characters appear
throughout the series, including Peet a half-Vampire, Emiko a rival of
Reiko, Father Karasu... A lot of humour and action is the trademark of
this series. Later on in the story, Yokoshima and Okinuchan undergo some
change: Yokoshima becomes more than the big lecher he already is, as he
learns to use his power of lust; Okinuchan gets some more 'consistency'.
- (Yuu) Shiina Hyakkaten [(Yuu) Shiina Department Store]
short story collection
serialized on Shounen Sunday,
3 volumes @ Y390
- Mister Jipangu [Mister Zipangu]
8 volumes @ Y390
Historical drama set in Japan's past. Jipangu can also be read as 'Japan'.
This being a "parody of history", it tells about the rise of Oda Nobunaga
and his second in command Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Hiyoshi here).
Putting it in historical perspective: it is 1548, during the Japanese
civil war. Nobunaga is a historical figure, military genius, who
conquered a lot of feudal Japan. Toyotomi, also a military genius,
finished the unification after Nobunaga got murdered.
Shiina focuses on how those two got there. He packs the story with action
