In Japan, the name of the series is often abbreviated to Kodocha. Kodocha is a very popular, but completely insane series. It has been said to be "Marmalade Boy on acid" and that's not far from the truth. We follow the life of a bunch of eleven year old kids, of which the two main characters are perhaps the most insane. Kurata Sana is a very hyperactive, nutty girl, always happy and combative. Hayama Akito is a very gloomy, depressing and suicidally unemotional boy with good looks. He acts like a real devil child but that's because of lack of affection in his family. They start out as the worst enemies but become good friends later on.

The title of the series is actually the name of the TV show in the manga series. Sana is a child actress in this TV show.

Kodocha is a series that is loved or hated. Actually, it may be very weird at the start, but it becomes more serious later on. As any shoujo series, lots of character development, relations, touching moments... but there is enough in it to appeal to those who don't like shoujo at all. Let it grow on you and do not judge it too soon. Recommended.

Yukako and Kou are childhood friends and Kou has a crush on Yukako, a very joyful girl full of life. He becomes very sad when Yukako has to move because of her parents' debts. Some years later, they meet again and Kou is shocked to find out how fragile Yukako has become. Yukako has been through very rough times, and is still being pursued by her parents' creditors (her mother committed suicide).
Kou decides to help Yukako out and pays off her debts by selling off the inheritance of his late father, meaning that he'll have to put away his own dreams of owning a restaurant. Yukako unintentionally finds out about Kou's well-doing and out of shame she runs away. She makes a vow to pay him back.
