Comics ?

Great, I love comics and there still are enough good ones around, despite the curse of commercialization. Besides a lot of classics I like to read alternative comics like De Onnoembaren, and sometimes fantasy comics. The vintage American comic series Dick Tracy is great.
I have a lot of series: Nero, Lucky Luke, Tintin, Blake & Mortimer… the essential stuff. But my favorite comic is The Red Knight, as you will find out soon enough.

Cindy’s favorite comic series is Kiekeboe.

Jommeke is the favorite comic series of Sally.

I am involved in the website of The Red Knight: I’m the Newseditor, Forummanager and I take care of the PR. Through this I met the writer & drawer Karel Biddeloo and he became a good mate.
Karel Bideloo died on june 7, 2004. Despite a lingering disease he drawed on untill his very last days. Comic 206 “Gog and Magog” will be published in december 2004.
The Red Knight comic will continue through drawer Claus Scholz en scenewriter Martin Lodewijk. The series will be published again starting late 2004, not that speedy any more, by the way: 4 instead of 6 annual numbers.

In februari 2003 the story Olavinlinna, of which I have written the story, was released. Scara made beautiful wallpapers of the main characters Risto, Frida, Jyrki and Aapisppää. He also made two Red Knight screensavers: one Standard version and one Olavinlinna version.

The title refers to the location of the story: the magnificent Olavinlinna castle in the Finnish city of Savonlinna .

When the story was released Karel Biddeloo made an exclusive series of five paintings about this story. They are now in three different countries:
  • one is mine

  • one belongs to Janneke Bakker in Holland

  • one is for my Finnish friend Risto,
on whom I based the character of Risto in the story

  • one belongs to Kirsi Loikkanen, PR of the castle of Olavinlinna

  • one is for the Olavinlinna castle and is displayed in their souvenir shop,
together with a Red Knight Olavinlinna comic
