SELF MADE

The Bangalore Torpedo set consists of a group of 10 x loading assemblies (steel tubes filled with high explosive), which are used singly or in series . They are provided with  the necessary nose sleeve and connecting sleeves, for blasting a path through barbed-wire entanglements or other field obstructions . The steel tubes are 5 feet in length and 2 1/8 inches in diameter, grooved and capped at each end . The explosive used is Amatol, with about 4 inches of TNT at each end . Total weight of explosive contained in each tube is about 9 pounds . One section weighs approximately 13 pounds . Each end of the loading assembly has a threaded cap well, to accomodate any firing device with a blasting cap crimped thereto . Bangalore torpedoes are packed in one wooden box (64 1/8" x 13 3/8" x 7 1/8") which contains 10 x 5-ft loading assemblies, 10 x connecting assemblies and 1 x nose sleeve .(our wooden box is based on a genuine item borrowed from a friend, while the 10 tubes entirely made out of steel, are also a true copy of an original, with necessary yellow period markings TORPEDO, BANGALORE, M1A1 LOT AP-524  6-44)

BLOCK, DEMOLITION,M2 (Tetrytol)

SELF MADE

The M2 Demolition Block is of rectangular shape (11" x 2" x 2") and is wrapped in brown kraft-paper (asphalt-impregnated) . Each block has a detonating well at each end . It is threaded at the outer end to receive any standard firing device or a priming adapter,  while at thend a tetryl pellet is cast in the block in order to act as a booster . 8 x blocks are packed in a single haversack (12 ˝" x 9" x 4 ˝", expendable) . Two full haversacks are then packed in a wooden box for further secure transportation and handling . (block markings, black : BLOCK, DEMOLITION, M2 (TETRYTOL) MUST BE DETONATED BY CORPS OF ENGINEERS U.S. ARMY BLASTING CAP 1-BLOCK = SIX ˝ LB. TNT BLOCKS) .(our model is based on a genuine item, and consists of 8 wooden blocks, wrapped in brown kraft-paper)
Production : between Jan 43 and Aug 45, Redstone Ordnance Plant manufactured 11,756,000 demo blocks for use by Engineers and Airborne Troops .

BLOCK, DEMOLITION, CHAIN,M1 (Tetrytol)

SELF MADE

The M1 Chain consists of  8 x 2 ˝ -lb blocks of tetrytol strung on a 16-ft length of detonating cord (primacord) which are packed in an olive drab cotton haversack (expendable) . The entire chain (or any part of it) may be used laid out in a line, wrapped around an object, or as packed, in the haversack . Since Tetrytol is more powerful and more brisant than TNT - this explosive is more effective in cutting steel and in demolition work . Each block is of rectangular shape (11" x 2" x 2") and is enclosed in a brown kraft-paper bag (asphalt-impregnated) . There is 8 inches between blocks and 2 feet of detonating cord at each end . The latter is detonated by a blasting cap (electric or nonelectric) or a detonator .Total weight of the chain explosive is 20 pounds, while each block weighs 1 ˝ lb. One complete chain  (i.e. 8 blocks) is packed in a single haversack (12 ˝" x 9" x 4 ˝") and its weight, fully packed is 22.5 pounds . Two demolition chains  (i.e. 2 x full haversacks) are packed in one wooden box for transportation . (block markings, black : BLOCK, DEMOLITION, CHAIN, M1 (TETRYTOL) MUST BE DETONATED BY CORPS OF ENGINEERS U.S. ARMY BLASTING CAP 1-BLOCK = SIX ˝ LB. TNT BLOCKS) (our model is based on a genuine item, and consists of 8 wooden blocks, wrapped in brown kraft-paper)

PACK, CHARGE (TNT)

SELF MADE

The 24 Pack Charge is an explosive device which consists of 24 x ˝ lb. blocks of TNT (i.e. 12 pounds of explosive) . Packs were often constructed by the units themselves, so quantities of TNT blocks may vary . In order to conceal the bright yellow label and colored markings (TNT blocks), the pack charge was often wrapped in burlap (sandbag) . A cheap metal wire (optional) carrying handle has been added for transportation purposes . Markings are not mandatory . (our model is based on a period-photograph, and has black markings 24 X PACK CHARGE, it is a hollow wooden structure covered in burlap)

POLE, CHARGE (TNT)

SELF MADE

The Pole Charge is a 12-lb pack charge (TNT) which consists of 24 x ˝ lb. TNT blocks, fixed to the end of a 18-foot long wooden pole . Its design is made in such a way as to easily shove it into pillbox embrasures, from a more or less safe distance . The head of the charge (tightly held together by a wooden cover and friction tape) swivels in order to allow it to be always placed flush against a vertical surface . Two lines of primacord run down the pole, from charge-head to bottom, and are connected to the 2 igniters placed there . The twin M1 Friction Type Fuze Lighter assemblies were used to prevent any misfires (double system) . Pole charges were usually constructed at unit level . (our model is a 10-lb pack charge version, fixed on a wooden pole, and is based on period-photographs & drawings, it was constructed by a friend of ours, and contains dummy wooden TNT blocks)
