Women's cycling was only admitted in Los Angeles, when Jeannie Longo, aged 26, was already a star of the sport. Although she was the favourite, a technical failure 800 meters from the finish line prevented her from sprinting for a first medal. She would have to wait another 12 years to finally win gold in the sport she helped to create.
She competed at age 46 in Athina - and age 50 at Beijing, a career spanning 24 years!
