The Military event in Stockholm had five (not three as today) sections. Cariou won sections 1,2,3 and 5, but finished only 14th in section 4, which made he only won the bronze medal. Curiously, that fourth section was a Jumping, the event in which he would later win individual gold (although on a different horse).
