The Volunteer Medal 1940-1945
Awarded to Belgian or foreign civilians who, before 8 May 1945, entered the Belgian armed forces for the duration of the war.
The obverse shows a soldier, at ease, before a large letter "V" (Volunteer) and a rising sun.
The bronze medal was instituted on 16 February 1946 and later on the volunteers who had entered the Belgian sections of the Royal Air Force or the Royal Navy as well as those in the Merchant Navy were added to those that could receive this decoration.
