Astroloba are often regarded by amateurs with a bit of contempt, because it includes some fastgrowing green bushy species and their boring flowers. Secondly, they have the infuriating habit of having a 5 cm section of stem all the leaves drying up, in spite of all the best care. Very unsightly, but there is little that you can do about it.
Many astrolobas are handsome though and there's always the elegant Poelnitzia rubriflora, not an Astroloba but a genus on its own!

A. bullulataA. bullulata grows slowly, but is worth it
showplantPoelnitzia rubriflora is not hard to grow but it takes time to see its special flowers
A. dodsonianaA. dodsoniana can be easily confused with poelnitzia rubriflora if no flowers are present
