March 12 , 2007 - "Compost Records - Freshly composed vol 2 "
No real big names on this compilation from 'compost-records', except for newcomer 'Alif Tree' and a remix by Carl Craig in the opening track. A track that really is as boring as playin' Pac-man on an Xbox 360... So it doesn't start good! But then one of my favorite tracks of 2007 pop up...
The album contains 13 tracks:
1. Beanfield - Tide 2. Muallem - Santi Dance 3. Felix Laband - Whistling In Tongues 4. Marsmobil - Mangia Amore 5. Alif Tree - Forgotten Places 6. Shahroh Soundofk - Owlflight 7. Jean-Paul Bondy - Something Is Not Right 8. Nova Dream Sequence - Dream 14 9. Karma - Are We? 10. Ben Mono - Jesus Was A B-Boy 11.Harvey Lindo - Rugged Individuals 12. Soil & Pimp - Waltz For Goddess 13. Koop - I See A Different You
'Santi Dance' by Muallem must have one of the coolest baselines ever! It reminds me a bit of my old 'synthesizer Greatest Hits' CDs... pure nostalgia. But anyway, after this little pearl, its back to crappy music, until 'owlflight' comes in. A typical teck-house club track; don't expect much variation, but a deep rhythm (with real cool drum roll) instead. With 'Jesus was a B-boy' the vibe changes from teck-house into a more downbeat, experimental acoustic jazz style. Fine songs, but no real eye-catchers.
Overall, not a bad compilation, but certainly not one stuffed with floorfillers. Fortunately Muallem's 'Santi Dance' makes up a lot :)
