More information on the activities

Forum on the repertory for cello solo

Professional and preprofessional cellists join the forum with a piece of their choice. As time is short we will concentrate both on new pieces and on which, though not well known, are worth being played. There will be possibilities to meet performing cellists and composers, to discuss with colleagues, to exchange pieces, to give and follow workshops, etc... Professional cellists are invited to register as soon as possible to make their contribution to the forum.

Amateur cellists are invited to register as soon as possible to take this opportunity to take part in the forum as a listener, and meet musicians and new music.

There is also a program for children, with two performances, a movie and a creative workshop

Cello Orchestra

Especially for Violoncello 2005 there will be a cello orchestra for amateur cellists. This orchestra will perform during the closing concert of Violoncello 2005, the entire profit of which will be donated to Médecins sans Frontières. There will be 4 rehearsals to prepare for this concert, beginning with a partial rehearsal conducted by professional cellists. The orchestra will consist of amateur cellists, but professional cellists can join if they participate in the final run-through.

Focus on Médecins sans Frontières/Doctors without Borders

Violoncello 2005 has the ambition to be an event "without frontiers": no borders between nationalities, languages, professionals and amateurs, age and style. This openess will be expanded towards an external organisation. The humanitarian organisation Médecins sans Frontières has one of its head quarters in Brussels, and more specifically in Jette. This year Violoncello wants to give more attention to this wonderful organisation. Besides the benefit concert, there will be encounters with people of MSF to create bridges between the professional music world and the world of international humanitarian aid.
