ERYTHRURA GOULDIAE

RED LINE

In this picture we see a
Gouldian Finch with a red line under the purple breast.

White Breasts also can have these red lines.
Due to our breeding methods a lot of our birds lost this characteristic.
Genetic inheritance should be autosomal recessive.

Such birds also appear in nature which proves this red line
isn't the result of some photographic process.
To prove that this bird existed in the past, we are publishing a color plate of an unknown artist
from the work
"A Popular History of Birds, A Familiar Account of their
Classification and Habits" from Adam White. London 1855.
In this work our Gouldian Finch is yet described as Poephila Mirabilis.
