End of season 2003
1sts end the season in 5th place with 10 wins in their 18 games. Thanks to all 26 players who turned out for the 1sts but particularly to skipper Brian Boyd and vice-captain Mark Shields (who played all 20 matches) for all their efforts in putting a team together week in week out. With a lot of the team getting on in years, it was heartening to see some new (and young) faces on the team. Here's hoping they will keep Academy cricket going in the future.
At the Annual Dinner, David Greenlees scooped the batting and bowling awards. Scotty Dog picked up the duck award.
1sts end the season with an easy 7 wicket win at Donacloney with Davy Greenlees taking 6-12.

1sts pull off a great victory chasing 217 at Saintfield with Ian Moffett hitting 46 and Mark Shields 37.
Remarkable turnaround for the 2nds who hammered Holywood, the team they lost to earlier in the season (all out 19 !). The 2nds posted one of the biggest totals in living memory (252) with Danny Morgan also hitting one of the all-time largest knocks, 125 ! Holywood were dismissed for 60 thus surely registering the 2nds all-time winning margin.
1sts scored a healthy looking 210 against Dundrum with in-form Mark Shields scoring 65, Davy Greenlees 57 and Peter Riddell 37. Unfortunately Dundrum knocked off the runs for the loss of only 2 wickets despite a strongish bowling attack. Welcome to Craig Coulter who played his first match.
On Sunday 29 June, 2nds scored 167 against CIYMS with Lee Thompson hitting a maiden 50 and then going on to take 3 wickets.
On 28 June, 1sts played Civil Service. Service batted first and scored 202. David Greenlees took 5 wickets including his first ever hat-trick! 1sts won by 3 wickets with several batsman chipping in, notably Mark Shields 46 and Danny Morgan 48.
A midweek game on 24/25 June saw the 1sts score 171-9 with Davy Greenlees and Mark Shields each hitting 64. Unfortunately, Davy injured himself and was unable to bowl the following evening, leaving us a bowler short. Cregagh won by 2 wickets.
On 21 June, 1sts lost by 5 wickets to Donacloney after scoring a disappointing total of 100. The 2nds also went down by 3 wickets to Dungannon.
A midweek game on 17/18 June saw the 1sts score a mammoth 230-7 against Civil Service. Brian Kelso hit a superb 107 not out with Davy Greenlees weighing in with 64. In reply Civil Service were all out for 146 with Lee Thompson taking 4-28.

Season gets underway with the most prolonged spell of bad cricketing weather since records began.
On Sunday 8th June, 1sts beat Millpark in one of the most remarkable finishes in the club's history. The firsts scored 159 with 68 from Brian Kelso and another useful contribution from Johnnie Burnside. Millpark appeared to be cruising at 157-7 but lost their last 3 wickets without adding another run. Mark Challis took a double wicket maiden with Gerry Sloan taking the last wicket to fall !
Scorer Jackie Quinn now provides a choice of regular text updates on your mobile phone or even live commentary if you phone him on the mobile !
1sts lost to CIYMS in their first league game of the season (played on 7 June !). They could only post 119 - with Robert Hall scoring 37 - which CI got for 3 wickets.
1sts lose disappointingly to Saintfield in 2nd round of Junior Cup despite a superb 74 from David Greenlees. Unfortunately only Johnnie Burnside was able to provide him with any support. Chasing 210, the 1sts were all out for under 140.
