We Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, or Sisters of the Good Shepherd as we usually are called, belong to an apostolic religious institute of pontifical right. Jesus the Good Shepherd has called us to live in union with him and continue his Redemptive Mission in the Church.  The charism of the "Good Shepherd" is best described as:

reconciliation, mercy, justice and peace and is expressed in the Congregation in two forms:
Active life
and Contemplative life

Our world presently faces many challenges: violence, un-employment, exploitation in all its forms.  We seek to respond to them by promoting justice, living and working among the poor, the marginalised, those excluded from our societies. No sisters act in isolation but in the name of the Congregation/community.  It's our comunities that have the mission of being "a presence" among the most diverse populations in the world.

At present we number 4711 sisters, 608 contemplative sisters and 4084 sisters serving directly in the apostolate. All of us share the same mission, namely to promote justice, witness to mercy and thus manifest the tenderness of God.  Approximately 2000 lay persons, men and women are Associates of the Good Shepherd and share in the same spirit.
We live in 673 communities spread throughout 67 countries.

E A G L E is an organisation made up of Good Shepherd Sisters in fourteen European countries. Our work is in collaboration with other relevant groups, dealing with issues relating to women and children.
We are a Non Governmental Organisation in special status with ECOSOC, United Nations. Hedwig Jöhl in Geneve (Swiss) is the NGO representative at the Economic Commission for Europe.
In our Congregation there are sisters who work directly in ministry and the Contemplatives who pray for the ministries.
