1916:

The P hood ; PH hood and PHG hood
The P hood was first produced in december 1915,P stands for Phenate, against chlorine gas.
The outlet valve helps to spare the hood => a longer life.
2500000 made

The PH hood:
In the beginning of 1916 there was need to protection against Phosgene gas. The P hood was modified with Hexamine.
That made the PH hood = Phenate - Hexamine
14 million made

PHG hood:
Because tear gas could still get trough the hood goggles were added: PHG = Phenate Hexamine Goggles
1500000 made inbetween the end of 1916 - beginning 1917

1917:

The SBR or Small Box Respirator is a gas mask connected to a filter in a bag with a tube.
The filter contains active carbon.
In the spring of 1917 the Germans used arsenic gas who could paas trough the filter.
A cotton pad with chemicals was added in the filter to stop the arsenic gasses.
In July 1917 an extra pad was added at the outside of the filter (attached with straps) to give protection against mustard gas or Yperite.
