While on a hiking trip in the ardens I discoverd this old quarry. I am not sure about it but i beleave that they won "China clay" on this site. In Flemish and French it was called "Karoline" and was basicly used in the ceramics industry to improve the quality of the regular clay.
This small quarry was abandonned long ago and nature has almost completly overtaken it again. The nice thing about it is that it is such a unique habitat. I found several rare plants inside and the silence and peace of the place is incredible.
However it looks like the hills are used to ride enduro- and dirtbikes on it. To bad! I hope they make a naturereserve out of it. Althoug I doubt the community knows how special it is since they use it as a storage place for thier heavy material. At least they did'nt make a landfill out of it.
The site is guarded with a fence but the main gate is always open. You can just walk in like that. Take care however! The site is guarded with mother natures most agressive guard as you will see at the end of this exploration.
