The fortress of duffel was constructed in the context of the "national reduit"
around 1860 and acts as a line of defence for the nearby Antwerp-Mechelen-Brussels rairoad.
At that time a railroad was the only means of mass transportation and the only way to transport strategic material and troops over land.
It became onder atack under WWI and surrenderd after the destruction of its front gourge
There are no pictures (yet?) only snapshots since at that time i had not bougt my camera yet. The pages are formed
as a sort of virtual guided tour but it is not easy to be complete in that way. That is why i never intend to do such thing anymore. Anyway... enjoy!
