MOGWAI: 4satine ep
12" (chemikal underground records)

Also released on chemikal underground records, this label has left a strong impression on me with the Magoo LP and this EP from Mogwai is from the same high level.
This ep breathes dualities. It's a contrast between easy, rippling guitar lines and extreme noise explosions. On the cover we recognise the same duality. A nice coloured (enormously wheel, I don't know the exact translation) fair attraction, but without seats, in the middle of nowhere and completely forsaken.
Three songs on it and the first "superheroes of bmx" is a slowly built up track. An easy guitar line which is driven up at the end. But they end in silence, not an explosion of noise. The next, "now you're taken" is a more modest track with a recited text on the background. "Stereodee" begins up-tempo but end up as a noise track, Sonic will be jealous on.
So, Mogwai made a perfect recapitulation from what's going on in music nowadays, from trancy guitar parts to repetitive patrons and noisy escapades.

MOGWAI: young team
2*LP (Chemical underground)

After listening to the "4 satine ep" I was curios about mogwai's first real full length. And the album is good, but can the high expectation partial redeem. There is lesser experimentation than on the "4 satine ep" I don't find a song as "superheroes bmx" on it.
What we get on this album are the Tortoise meets My Bloody Valentine sounds like songs. As there are "yes I am a long way from home", "katrein" and "summer (priority version) ". Also the songs with the typical Mogwai noise outbreaks, here is "like herod" the absolutely number one of the LP. This song has a lot of tension and really unaccepted noise escapades.
So resuming, when the album was a little bit shorter, it was a bomb of an album, now there are some redundant songs on it ("mowai fear satan", "r u still in 2 it" ..) which bring the level of the LP down.
