Huiskamer vlijt van New York. Greg Weeks kennen we van de "songs from the attic" verzamelaar van Keyhole records (samen met Tinsel en Migala). Hier vond ik zijn bijdrage niet zo sterk, maar met deze CD weet hij me wel te overtuigen. Het is een CD die zijn aftakelende relatie beschrijft. De eerste zes nummers zijn geschreven ten tijde van de spaak lopende relatie, De laatste twee na de beuk. Greg begeleid zichzelf op een akoestische gitaar. De teksten vatten ongekunsteld de emotie van het moment. Dit geld ook voor de muziek. Het is waarschijnlijk niet allemaal perfect, maar de oprechte emotie en knappe melodieën maken het een mooi geheel. De teksten worden voorgedragen in plaats van dat hij ze "zingt". Dit komt goed uit met zijn eerder zachte toonkleur. In het CD boekje vind je voor elke song een afdruk van een kunstwerk (pentekeningen, collages,…) dat collega artiesten / muziekanten maakten bij één van de songs. Een mooi geheel dat zeker de moeite waard is. Keyhole brengt niet veel materiaal uit, maar als ze iets uitbrengen zit het niveau echt wel redelijk goed. |
Living room diligence from New York. We know Greg Weeks from his contribution to the "songs from the attic" CD, released by Keyhole records (with also Tinsel and Migala). I found his contribution on this CD not so strong, but with this one he know to convince me. The concept of the CD is a relationship gone to an end. The first six songs are written during the turbulent time, the last two after the split. The accompaniment from Greg is just his guitar. The lyrics catch natural the emotion of the moment. This is also so for the music. It's probably not all-perfect, but the sincere emotion en clever melodies make it a beautiful album that comes over very intimacy. The texts are recited instead of singed, this sounds very well and fits good with Greg's soft voice color. In the CD book you find for each song an art interpretation (collages, pen design…) that colleague artists / musicians made for one of the songs. A good album released by a label that released not many records but the quality level is always OK. |
