- Johan: My rating: 3 points on 5.
- Peter Risser: Nah. Not even the Lalo stuff sticks with you and the other dude (Mr. Now), well, it's not very good. I was disappointed.

- Lalo Schifrin conducting the WDR Big Band: "Bullit"
- CD, Aleph Records, USA, 2000
- comment:
- Darrell Brogdon: a new recording of his "Bullitt" soundtrack. Great movie (just saw it again on AMC) and ultra-cool music, sort of hip '60s San Francisco private eye jazz or whatever you want to call it-- it's tasty stuff! Like the recent "Mannix" CD, this one's got Lalo conducting the WDR Big Band, recorded last April. It has several versions of the theme (including a guitar solo) and some cues from the film not included in the first soundtrack CD. Wow!
- Lalo Schifrin: "Bullit"
- Double CD, Warner, Europe?, 2001
- comment:
- Johan: One disc has the original score, the other "music recreated from and inspired by the motion picture".
- Lalo Schifrin: "Che "
- CD, label?, ?, 2002
- comment:
- Sean: I'm quite fond of it. It's mostly traditional-sounding Andean and Cuban music (to coincide with Che Guavara's travels in Bolivia and Cuba). The guitar work on Che is incredible (by Juanjo Dominguez). There is a lot of passion and energy in this music. It's nothing at all like Bullitt or Mission Impossible, but a nice piece of work by Schifrin. His recent soundtrack to the movie Tango is similar in that it is very true to traditional Argentine tango music.
- Lalo Schifrin: "Cool Hand Luke"
- CD, Aleph, USA, 200?

CD, Warner Music 9362-48074, France, 2001 - comment:
- Johan: My rating: 4 points on 5. A classic, must-have Schifrin soundtrack! the booklet unfolds as a film poster, and also includes an interview with the man.
- Allan Telstar: (about the Warner Bros Video 15923-00-CD) The cover states "original motion picture soundtrack newly restored and remastered". I have been told that for the most part, this edition is only available packaged along with the DVD edition of the film, but I was lucky enough to find the cd used. I believe that www.filmscoremonthly.com/ has a few copies of the soundtrack available for purchase separate from the DVD.
- Lalo Schifrin: "The Liquidator"
- LP, MGM E/SE-4413ST, 1960's
LP, label?, UK, 1999 - comment:
- Johan: My rating: 4 points on 5. Beautiful and varied soundtrack: a strong big band theme sung by Shirley Bassey that is as good as any Bond theme by John Barry; some bossa nova; crime jazz; cool jazz; jazzy pop; groovy rockin' twist; jazz-pop; orchestral EZ. Excellent arrangements with occasional odd instruments and sounds.
- Lalo Schifrin, WDR Big Band: "Mannix"
- CD, Aleph 014, USA, 1999
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 4 points on 5.
- Darrell Brogdon: It's not the original soundtrack but a NEW recording by the West German Radio Big Band, led by Schifrin. The four bonus tracks were "developed from his Mannix concepts of 30 years ago". Great late '60s-early '70s TV crime jazz.
- Pat Jennings: the new versions ROCK! The WDR Big Band is outstanding, with BIG KAHUNAS!, and it seems they have a great affinity for Mr. Schifrin and his style of music. Any of you "Exoticats" interested in purchasing these should go to www.schifrin.com/. Definately get Bullitt and Mannix, but don't overlook Jazz Goes to Hollywood...
- Lalo Schifrin: "Mannix"
- CD, Warner, USA/ Europe, 2001

- Lalo Schifrin: "Mission Impossible"
- CD, One Way MSIF-2204, Japan, 1994
- comment:

- Lalo Schifrin: "Mission: Impossible"
- Double LP, Simply Vinyl SVLP41, UK, 1998

- Lalo Schifrin: "Rollercoaster"
- LP, MCA 2284, 1977
CD, label?, 2002 - comment:
- Johan: My rating: 2 points on 5. Half of the tracks are OK, but I found the rest rather uninteresting.
- Lalo Schifrin: "Rush Hour"
- CD, Aleph 005, USA, 1998
CD, Warner?, Europe?, 2001 - comment:
- Johan: My rating: 1 points on 5. Soundtrack for Jackie Chan's first Hollywood movie from 1998. Lalo mixes western rhythms with exotic Chinese instrumentations, a bit like "Enter the Dragon", but it's not funky at all, this is symphonic bombast; only yhe title theme is groovy, the rest is bland filler.
- Lalo Schifrin: "Slaughter On Tenth Avenue"
- CD, Polygram 547 185, USA, 199?
- comment:
- Peter Schirmann: "Fluchtweg St. Pauli"
- Siegfried Schwab & Manfred Hübler: "Vampyros Lesbos"

- Armando Sciascia: "Mondi Caldi Di Notte" (Italian 60s Mondo Movie Sexy Themes)
- Armando Sciascia & His Orchestra: "Sexy"
- CD, Hexacord, Italy, summer 2003
- comment:
- Hexacord: previously unreleased OST of one of the best sexy mondo of all the times: "SEXY" (aka: "Sexy Girls", "Beautiful by Night", 1964).
- Ravi Shankar: "Transmigration Macabre"
- CD, See For Miles? C5CD 596, UK, 199?
- comment:
- Peter: The soundtrack to a British artfilm ("Viola"), with short pieces such as "Madness" and "Death"; much more eerie and aggressive sitar/tabla playing than I've heard elsewhere. Again, not really pop, but fascinating.
- David Shire: "The Taking Of Pelham One Two Three"
- CD, Retrograde Records FSM-80123, USA, 1998

- Johan: My rating: 3 points on 5.
- Howard Shore: "Ed Wood"

- Allan "Telstar": A while back I reviewed Lydia Kavina's "Music from the Ether - Original Works for Theremin". In the liner notes it mentioned that she played the vintage electronic musical instrument on Howard Shore's "Ed Wood" score. Considering that "Ed Wood" (directed by Tim Burton) is one of my favourite movies, I thought it high time to buy a copy of the soundtrack and I'm glad I did. Kavina's theremin can be heard throughout the score which gives the music that 1950's other-worldly feel that is so hard to replicate. Added compositions which evoke the time period include Perez Prado's "Kuba Mambo" and Korla Pandit's "Nautch Dance". An added bonus (I love these parts) are bits of dialogue from Martin Landau as Lugosi and Jeffrey Jones as prognosticator-extraordinaire Criswell. The combination of all these elements made for a very enjoyable listening experience. A final note: Another vintage instrument featured on the soundtrack in the Ondes Martinot played by Cynthia Miller. I believe this was some sort of early electronic organ.
- Alden Shuman: "The Devil In Miss Jones"
- cd, Oglio OGL 81597, USA, 1997
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 2 points on 5. Very intimate and minimalistic score, with mainly piano (yawn) and strings. Boring (yawn.) Perfect if you can't sleep, just skip track 4 ("the teacher"), which is a funky one, absolutely unrepresentative for the rest of the score, and therefor the only one i really liked! And sound quality sucks: Oglio used a very noisy vinyl copy to master from.
