- Talkin' Verve Groovy
- CD, Verve 557 081, USA, 1998
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 5 points on 5. Verve artists do groovy jazz covers of 60's soul, R&B, and pop songs; they sound more pop or "Now" than jazz, which I think is good! Oscar Peterson's "Satisfaction" is about the only "real" jazz track, which means that you can't recognise the original melody ;-)
- Talkin' Verve With a Twist
- CD, Verve 537 914, USA, 1997
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 5 points on 5. This was Verve's "Space Age Pop/Lounge" hit compilation, irts reply to Capitol's Ultra-Lounge series I guess. Very much like Rhino's "Cocktail Mix" Volumes 2 & 3, so if you liked those, be sure to check these out! Lots of cool tunes, mostly from the Mercury archives: Charade, Pink Panther, Tequila, Walk on the wild side, Peter Gunn, James Bond theme, What's new pussycat, Girl from Ipanema, One mint julep.
- Teen Beat Volume 1
- CD, Ace, UK, 199?
- comment:
- (unknown): R&R instros in general, so pure surf is only part of the mix - if that matters to you. It's a good series though, with 30 tracks to a disc
- Teen Dance Music From China And Malaysia
- CD, Thrift Score Records 001, USA, 2002
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 4 points on 5. Instrumental exotica weirdness, eclectic, mostly instrumental Go-Go pop by obscure Guitar bands from China and Malaysia, from circa mid 1960's to early '70's.
Read a review of this record in the "Critiquarium". - Jack Diamond: If you are a guitar fan, pop, jazz, jazzy pop, now go go sounds, country jazz, soundtrack soundtrack sounds, Ennio Morricone, Spaghetti Westerns, Wordless Vocals, Al Caiola, George Barnes, Howard Roberts, Barney Kessel, Tommy Tedesco, The Ventures, The Shadows, THE NUTTY SQUIRRELS or E) ALL OF THE ABOVE; You have now arrived. Various artist compilation of guitar bands from China and Malaysia, circa mid 1960s to early 70s maybe ??? this kills. everything just turned bright yellow and lime green: pretty damn happy, and you gone be havin some fun! There are guitars and whistling, like the Ennio Morricone stuff and some others too. In the Spaghetti Western stuff, there are loud gunshots from rifles, like in the old West. The James Bond Medley will rock your world THAT definitely has gun shots and richochet bullet sounds. Check out the "Tacit Blessing" for a wild ride with copious amounts of pumping hips going 'round n' 'round. GREAT 60s Go Go dance music, heads bobbin’ back and forth, arms flailin’ all over, hips shakin, girls screamin! It's an all night party with the Teen Dance Music from China and Malaysia CD blammin’ out the speakers. In the car, in the house, everywhere you go, everybody is gonna be doing the Mod Go Go Beat Dance. Titles that say "Indecipherable" ??? The records were/are in another language and the guys that put this together couldn't decipher it (smile)

- Television's Greatest Hits Volume 5: In Living Color (TV Themes from the 60's and 70's)
- CD, TVT Records 227428, USA, 1996
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 3 points on 5. 61 themes from the 1960's and 70's (although the track list mentions 65!) More then half of them are between good and very good, and of course there's overlapping with other Theme comps, like "Tunes From The Toons - The Best Of Hanna-Barbera" to name just one.
- Television's Greatest Hits Volume 6: Remote Control
- Television's Greatest Hits Volume 7: Cable Ready
- Test Card Classics - The Girl The Doll The Music
- CD, Flyback/Chandos FBCD 2000, UK, 1996
- comment:
- Johan: Peter Hipwell: "I like it a lot, but this might well just be simply nostalgia value for that style of music; generally very smooth and laid back. Vol. 1 does have Roger Roger, also Syd Dale and Alan Moorhouse if I remember right. I don't play it too often."
- Reviewed in the "Record Collector" issue 209
- Test Card Classics Volume 2 - Big Band Width
- CD, Flyback/Chandos, UK, 1997
- That's All Folks! (Cartoon Songs From Merrie Melodies & Looney Tunes)
- Double CD, Rhino R2 74271, USA, 2001
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 5 points on 5. Beautifully packaged, as a CD size hardcover book, with lots of info and drawings. See Rhino's web site for details on the contents. All (12) tracks are actual sort of medleys, they cleverly edited out all the dialog, and the result is great, except that those tracks are too long, they didn't divide them up into songs, so you can't directly access 1 specific song. Even "Bugs Bunny's Greatest Hits" is 1 long track containing no less than 24 songs! The biggest surprise is the inclusion of "Three Little Bops" by Stan freberg & Shorty Rogers, a hip version of "the 3 little pigs", that you can read about in _Cool And Strange Music Magazine_ issue 8 p18.
- From the sticker on the outside: Includes 2 CDs of cartoon treasures with arrangements by Carl Stalling and voice by Mel Blanc, plus a 100-page book chock full of rare art, historical essays, and more.
- That's Irma Juice (The classic covers collection in electronicalounge)

- That's New Pussycat! (Surf Tribute To Burt Bacharach!)
- CD, Om Om Music OMOM RBKB3, Italy, 2000
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 4 points on 5. Warning: this is not a surf CD... No, wait a minute... Hip hip, woow, great, this is not a surf comp! And not too much vocal songs either. 25 very varied types of "instro", mostly guitar-based, some quite inspired versions that might surprise you! Die-hard surf fans might be disapointed...

- Theremin Noir
- CD, ?, ?, ?
- comment:
- william: rob schwimmer, uri caines, mark feldman. the disc contains both original compositions and covers (including songs from "marnie", "vertigo", and "torn curtain"). i'm pretty poor at descriptions of music. but it seems to me to be pretty much in the vein of classical music. but quite nice. one track is titled "waltz for clara" and the cd has the following information about this track: " 'waltz for clara' was written on the date of the death of theremin virtuoso clara rockmore, whose performance inspired me to pick up the instrument."-rob schwimmer.

- Gionni Paludi: it features all italian 60's & 70's stuff. The man behind it is Paolo Scotti, of "Easy Tempo - voll. 1 to 5" and "Mood Mosaic" fame. At the moment Paolo and myself are working together on a new compilation.
- This Is Cult Fiction. 28 Cult TV & Movie Classics
- CD, Virgin VT 59, UK, 1996
- This Is Cult Fiction Royale
- Double CD, Virgin, UK, 199?
- comment:
- Johan: 47 TV & movie themes.
- Brian Phillips: among the many gems of this collection are "Stingray", "The Baron", "'Tiswas", "Fireball XL5", "Joe90", "E.V.A." (Jean-Jacques Perrey!), "Get Carter", "Danger Man" and there are others. All of them sound great, particularly the "Fireball XL5" which is greatly improved over the take on "TVT's "Television's Greatest Hits".

- Toon Tunes: 50 Favorite Classic Cartoon Theme Songs
- CD, Rhino 72752, USA, 1997
- comment:
- Johan: Lots of duplicates with the "Television's Greatest Hits" comps
- Toon Tunes: Action-Packed Anthems
- CD, Rhino R2 74337, USA, 2001
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 4 points on 5. 36 cartoon themes, spanning 5 decades. I'm not really pleased with the way Rhino randomly sequenced various styles and periods; the huge difference in sound quality between old and new tunes is a bit distracting... and most of the themes from the 1980's and '90's really miss humor, originality, class... they'll never become timeles! Also some overlap with other such comps of course, but plenty left to make it recommendable.
- Toon Tunes: Funny Bone Favorites
- CD, Rhino R2 74336, USA, 2001
- comment:
- Johan: My rating: 3 points on 5. If you already have some cartoon theme comps, better check out the track listing at Rhino's site, to avoid buying a bunch of tuneds you already have. else, this is a good starting point for your funny cartoon theme collection.
