The first ceramic objects date from the neoliticum age, when men discovered that clay earth turns into stone if fired long enough at a temperature around a thousand degrees Celsius. Most early ceramic findings are of functional nature such as pottery, but fired clay was since the beginning probably also used as an artistic expression in the form of sculptures. When the grave of the first Chinese emperor near Xian was discovered, it revealed an army of several thousands ceramic warriors buried over two millennia ago: today's best preserved historical example of sculptural ceramics... What makes sculptural ceramics so special are its colours. Glazes, lustres, oxydes and engobes are but a few of the materials and techniques used to give ceramics its amazing palette of colours. The fragility of the material gives the sculpture a true touch of elegance and preciousness. I've been touched and passionated by ceramic sculptures since a long time. The joy of transforming an amorphous block of clay, led by feelings and inspiration, and the thrill when opening the kiln, are but two reasons why I want to continue sculpturing with ceramics for the rest of my days. I made this site to share a flavour of this with you. Hope you enjoy it! |
