| Smart alt-lines |
By putting your mouse on the image you
can see the Subjects belonging to that kind of advertising medium |
|
|
| Visitors, go down all the
way and enjoy all kinds of cards from previous century ... by moving gently over the
exposed card with your mouse you will be seeing resumed all similar cards
belonging to that category. My intention is around august 2000, to enlarge the possibilities of
these pages, by making all words and pictures interactive ! |
| if you have such or other kinds of cards,
ephemera, postcards ... and you don't want anymore to collect them ...then
send them to me. I will pay for them (give it a try) ... and if you prefer to send
them as a gift, then I will put them here were they will be seen by the whole world
without any costs .. .in our vitral museumshelves. |
| TRADE CARDS===================== I think we determinate them best as
cards printed for certain Company's, on their cost, to distribute them gratuitly one by
one ... to ensure that those who liked them would force their surroundings to a
higher consumption. Most cards are aprox 8 X 12 and exist in sets of 6 (or a
multiplication of 6 e.g. 12 24 48 etc) |
 |
| PUZZLE CARDS ======
They exist also in many shapes. These are 6 postcard-backs,
lithography and NON-divided backs
Queen of Holland (aprox anno 1900) |
 |
| POSTERS
=====================
Paper or cardboard announcements to be exposed on corners in the streets. You
might categorize them as advertising, and that is OK with me, I agree. The
very big ones did not survive (a few exceptions exist, this does only confirm that most
were destroyed). Ephemera was not suposed to survive ! |
 |
| TICKETS======more tickets==== We
all know the tiny type of paper you get as entree (=admittance) receipt. Those
I like most are from around and before 1900, lithographs, edited in sets, colorfull
artistic advertising. The entrance part (left border) with the price on it
is most of the times cut of with a scissor, or invalidated with a whole.
This one is from my favourite collection: Liebig's Meat extract.
For the ones I am missing in this set I want to pay you 400$ each |
 |
| Small book-alikes================ It looks like a book but is NOT
literature. The contenance is about all the title says. This one was a
touristic description for visting the country where I live. Printed
around 1900, in Germany by BAEDEKER. Usualy there are some folding maps,
technical explications, prices, plans, how-to-do-this or that, Tit & Tat ....
|
 |
| |
|
| Poster Stamps, cinderellas, vignettes ===============================
Lots of names for these stamp-alikes. They were used to contribute, commerorate,
publish some data ... on a manner that was affordable by minorities and ordinary people.
They had to be bought or were given free at manifestations (Congress, Expo,
Exhibitions) |
 |
| Propaganda ================== There is a large section, but
don't want to get involved in any discussions about any of the wars. So,
if interest ask for the WWII - URL |
|
| ADVERTISING POSTCARDS=======
Since I am primerly interested in ephemera, we will limit this section to
non-divided-back postcards with publicity on front OR back. This is a year2000
picture by the artist ROBIDA. It is an air- taxi which is delivering merchandise
bought at a Parisien Ware-House |

 |
| (adhesive)LABELS====================
All kind of labels were printed to advertise products. They were to
be glued with a prepared back with adhesive coating (like stamps) or only to be put in
water. The paper is mostly thin (no card, only one layer). Here is
a collection book with wine labels |

| HAND-CARDS-DIE-CUT
Portretting by out-cut was a profession for some artists, before photography was
invented.
It was worlwide a custom to make portraits this way on important meetings .. (spying,
diplomatic needs) ... just to recognize people, to recall in memory ... fill in family
albums, etc |
 |
| MENU CARDS
========================
These cards can have dimensions sometimes 10 times the size of a normal tradecard.
Their form can also be oval to round, palet-shaped, fold-out, etc....
They can be pre-printed with the menu or have a white place to commerorate the ocasion
and dish. The backside can be blanco, recipes, advertising |
 |
| more COMMERATIVE CARDS====
Those cards were distributed (sold) to get some of the expenses payed back necessary to
make some event a succes. They publish the date and location of what was going to
happen, and gave an animated prediction of that future event
Postcard Antwerp 1894 Exposition |
 |
| ALBUM CARDS ===============
Insert cards, were edited in sets and have numbers on back, or front. They were
to be inserted (or glued) in their special designed albums. (most) Albums had
numbered pages, mostly with pre-printed borders and the number of the image and
descriptive text for the images. Cover, back and inside : full
advertising for the products. Most of those sets have an alfabetical index too : set A, B,
C, D, ect.. and then 1 to 6 or 12 depending how many cards on a page. |
 |
| more INSERT CARDS ==========================
Insert cards, were edited in large sets and HAVE SOMETIMES numbers on back, or
front. When not numbered they are strongly related to one subject. They
could be inserted in special albums with carved out edges to put the
cards in. There are many exeptions because some sets were printed with and without
numbers. |
|
| There will be lots of additions to these : and clicking will lead you to
more of similar : July : next I will do
will be Hotel labels interactive clicking will gide you through 10.000 of different
ones I have (at this moment, when sold lots of other ephemera will be shown
AUGUST : Tradecards from 1850 to 1870 can be also very
attractive to do, 2000 different of the famous porcelain-cards ..... |
 |
| If you have additions to these pages. Or if you notice to have
better words , please note that all reactions will be very welcome. I
am Flemish and English is not our mother-language. So better construction of
sentences or used words in the descriptions will be mostly appreciated. Thanks a lot |
