The Chinese Opera Puppets

Chinese opera is a very ancient art and is part of the Chinese history. The artist troups, when they travelled to do representation in provinces, sold puppets like these ones. These puppets represent most of the typical characters of the opera. Other troups used them for puppet theater.

They are made by wood with articulated arms and legs, the head is made by terra-cotta and thinly painted. The dresses are silk made and richly decorated.

Now, these troups don't exist anymore and these puppets become uncommon.

These two puppets have been made during the 60th. The size is around 50 cm.

They are a little dirty and have some scratches.
