About US
Henri MIGNON , retired artillery officer of the Belgian Army, born in 1936.
His family used to live in a small village north of Bastogne, in an area reoccupied by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge. Though only 8 years old, he clearly recalls the hardships of the fights and especially the day when his father was killed by a shrapnel (shell fragment).
After the Battle, he studied classics (Greek and Latin) in Bastogne and 6 years later he was admitted in the Military Academy of Brussels where he had a special interest in the military history.
Then, as a young artillery officer, he was posted in Germany for several years, before moving back to Bastogne where he was frequently the “designated volunteer” to accompany the veterans to the sites they defended in the winter of 1944-45.
Henri Mignon’s expertise is the result of several factors: his own memories and study of the Battle, his long stay in the area still impregnated with the Battle, his countless contacts with the veterans and a strong military background.
Henri Mignon guides not only for tourists, but he frequently leads battle rides for military units; he has also more specialised tours: Elderhostel, Educational tours, etc… he is fluent in French, English and Dutch.
