Since Kenshin is a manga where battles play an important role, weapons are needed to participate in those battles, right? Well, Kenshin has a lot of diffferent weapons, some are rather normal, but there are also others that are quite unique and original. A quick overview; Pictures can be accesed by clicking on the weapon name.

Kenshin's weapon. The special thing about this katana is the blade. With a normal katana, you have a long sharp edge, and a short blunt edge, so that you can also use it for defending. But with the Sakabato, the blade is reversed, so it has a short sharp edge, and a long blunt edge, so that the risk of killing an opponent is greatly reduced. Kenshin uses this to aid him in keeping his oath not to kill anyone anymore.

The Sakabato Shin'uchi is the sword that Kenshin uses after his old Sakabato got broken. This is the original Sakabato, the one that Shakku Arai first made. The other one was just a copy, although it was strong, it didn't have as much resistance as the original Sakabato Shin'uchi. After Enishi's defeat, Kenshin can no longer use his Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu skills, and he passes his Sakabato on to Yahiko, hoping that he'll use it for the same reasons he did.

Sano's weapon when he was still known as Zanza. It is a very heavy blunt sword that can be used to smash the opponent. Because of its weight, not many people are able to wield it perfectly, but it's no problem for Sano's strength. The original Zanbato was destroyed by Kenshin during their first confrontation, but later on, Sano had a new one forged to aid him in his fight against the six comrades, but it also got destroyed.
A bamboo sword that got popular after the Meiji revolution. Because it was forbidden to carry real swords and to use them for kenjutsu, people had to use the shinai to exercise. It is light and easily to handle, but it can also be broken easily. This is also the weapon that the students of the Kamiya Kasshin Ryu use, to protect life instead of destroying it.
Aoshi's weapon. It is a smaller blade that is normal used for defending. Kenshin finds it weird that Aoshi uses this instead of a normal katana, but he quickly realizes that Aoshi uses it for defending and that he attacks with Kenpo. Later on, Aoshi switches to two kodachis, that allow him to attack faster and to defend if necessary.

A big and heavy iron ball used by Shikijo. A normal man wouldn't be able to carry it, but thanks to the Oniwaban Shu's potions that enhance Shikijo's muscles, he can easily use it to completely crush his opponent.

Hyottoko's weapon. He carries a big oil bag in his stomach that is connected to his mouth through a small. It allows him to burn any opponent, and he stops them from approaching him. He can also unleash the full contents of the bag, causing his opponent to burn almost completely.

Beshimi's secret weapon. Small pointy balls are dipped into poison and can be used to attack an opponent from a distance. The great advantage of this is that they can be used quickly and that an opponent can't see them coming.

Misao's favourite weapon. She uses small knives that she ahs hidden in her clothes to attack the opponent. Although the knives aren't very strong, they can be quite damaging if the opponent is surprised by them.

Okina's weapon when he was still with the Oniwaban Shu. He used two bats to attack his opponent, and he's surprisingly fast and strong with them. But even with his supreme technique, he's no match for Aoshi's kodachi technique.

Kanryu's weapon. It is a full automatic weapon that can fire 200 bullets in a minute. It is operated by turning a cling, and once it starts firing, it becomes difficult to evade the bullets. Kanryu uses it to kill the Oniwaban Shu, but before he gets the chance to fire on Aoshi, Kenshin disables it by cutting of the cling.

An ancient and valuable blade that used to belong, according to the legends to Soshi Okita, captain of the Shinsengumi. In reality, Okita probably didn't use such a valuable sword, but it is almost always used in stories about the Shinsengumi. In the manga, it was used by Sojiro Seta, during his last fight with Kenshin, but it was destroyed by the force of the Ama Kakeru no Ryu Hirameki.

Another weapon that belonged to one of the Shinsengumi, Isami Kondo, the commander. Although most people think that the weapon he used was a false Kotetsu, it proved to be very helpful in different combats. Shishio gives it to Sojiro before his first confrontation with Kenshin. The blade is strong enough to break Kenshin's sakabato, but it couldn't resist the impact of the hit, and it started to break, making it useless.

Shishio's sword, created by Shakku Arai. The special thing about the blade is that it contains small grooves. Thanks to these grooves, the sword won't get dull, even if Shishio only uses it for killing. Another advantage of the grooves is that, every time when Shishio kills someone, human grease gets stuck in the grooves, giving him the chance to use his Mugenjin technique by setting the grease on fire.

Special blades used by Senkaku, one of Shishio's subordinates. It's some sort of knives that Senkaku attaches to his hands, giving him the chance to literally slice through is opponent. He can use them really fast, but they are no match for Kenshin's Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu skills.

Another special blade that Shakku Arai made. It is used by Cho Sawagejo. The special thing about this weapon is that it consists of two blades, placed next to each other. One hit of this causes a double wound that can be very difficult to treat. The victim will die of infection, if the wound can't be treated properly.

Cho's final and best weapon. It was created by Shakku Arai to be used by assassins. The blade is very flexible and it can be manoeuvred like a snake. It can be used really fast, and because it can attack from almost everywhere, it is very difficult for an opponent to evade.

The coolest weapon in the manga. It is built up from some sort of scythe, with a long chain attached to it. This can be a very dangerous weapon, because, even if the opponent manages to evade the scythe, he has to look out for the chain, making every counterattack impossible. It becomes even more dangerous in combination with Kamatari's Benten techniques.

Usui's equipment. The Rochin is a small spear that allows fast and accurate attacks, even when used by a blind man like Usui. The Tinbeh s a shield made from Turtle shells, making it almost impossible to pierce trough, and if a weapon hits it, it slides of without making even a scratch.

The weapon Enishi gave to Banjin. It is used as some sort of shield for the hands, but it can also be used as an attack arm. They are made out of very strong material, but Sano managed to destroy them with his Futae no Kiwami.

Hyogo Kujiranami's weapons. The Armstrong cannon is slow but the cannon balls it fires can cause a lot of damage. The Custom Grenade Launcher is faster, but its grenades don't cause as much damage as a cannon ball.

One of Hyoko Otawa's weapons. The powder consists of small iron particles, and is spread out over the opponent. The sword, that is being magnetised when held in the scabbard, reacts to the powder, giving the user reflexes and strength against the opponent, because the sword reacts to the iron particles. Even an amateur at sword skills could become a real threat with this.

Another one of Hyoko's hidden weapons. It is a small device set to his arm that allows him to rapidly fire small darts at his opponent. The sneaky thing about this is that the device is hard to see, and the opponent is surprised when he's suddenly hit by one of the darts.

Rikkudoko
Hyoto's secret weapon. It looks like some sort of ornament that he has attached to his back, but when an opponent approaches him, he pushes a secret button in his hand to activate it. The spikes hit the opponent, and pierce him. This can be very dangerous if the opponent isn't prepared for such an attack.

The two blades used by Suzaku, one of Heishin Wu's Sushin. They look a lot like the kodachis Aoshi uses, and Suzaku can use them to copy Aoshi's technique. Although they appear to be strong, Aoshi easily breaks one with his bare hands.

A longer sword used by Seiryu of the Sushin. It looks a bit like a short poleaxe, but it can be used in the same way as a sword; Although Seiryu manages to hit Saito a few times with it, it is easily destroyed by the Gatotsu.

Fist weapons used by Byakko of the Sushin. It looks like an armband around his wrists with spikes on it. He doesn't use it a lot during his fight with Sano, but it looks like it could be dangerous if used properly.

The weapon used by Genbu of the Sushin against Yahiko. At first sight it looks like some sort of pole, but as soon as he's attacked, the weapon breaks open into several pieces attached with each other through a chain, like a nunchaku. It looks dangerous, but Yahiko could easily destroy it with his Hadome.
