Comblain-la-Tour, Fairon, Filot, Hamoir, Hamoir-Lassus, Xhignesse, ...

These different villages and hamlets plunge their roots in the history of the Stavelot-Malmedy abbey, on which they were depending until the french revolution. Harmonious group of multiple landscapes, crossed by the Ourthe and the Néblon, Hamoir develops a going by tourism, looking for quietness, in search of the past and of a environment favourable to the discovery of nature.
Hamoir saw in the XVIIth century the birth of two great artists, the sculptor
Jean Del Cour, the Walloon Rubens of the chisel (www.hamoir.be) and his brother Gilles Del Cour, an also wellknown painter. The composer, musician and poet, Edward Senny, (www.senny.be), lived in Filot from 1923 until his tragical accidental disappearance in 1980.

Churches and abbeys

The romanesque church of Xhignesse (listed).
Buildt in the XIth century, is one of the most venerable monuments in the area; its architectural shape was exceptionnal in the old principality of Liège. Restored and uplighted in 1992, it belongs to the major Walloon patrimony.
It can be visited all year long, as well as the Sainte-Anne chapel, which is in half circle on a rocky platform.

Archeology

The excavation in Tombeu. Hamoir
From 1967 until 1971, it has been directed by the National Service of the Excavation, regionalised at the day; it brought to light several merovingian graves. All the recensed objects are conserved in the Hamoir museum, Piqueur's House, Del Cour Square.
Opening periods and hours: In July and August (and in September during the patrimony days: second week-end of September): from 10h until 12h and from 14h until 17h.
