Poland is for ages well known for its strong black metal and death metal
scene (leaders such as Behemoth, Vader, Decapitated reign over the whole
European scene for more than a decade and are regarded as real forerunners
of the nowadays scene), so I approached this little EP (seven songs
for a total playing time of thirty-one minutes) with some hopes. Strangely,
Empty Playground don’t play the ultra brutal death or black metal
that I was expecting, but rather very industrial sounding death metal.
While the song-writing is very efficient, at times the songs can feel
slightly too weird due to the sudden inclusion of samples and industrial
‘sound’. On the other side, the inclusion of those industrial
surroundings offers variation and unexpected approaches that prevents
monotony and predictability. «Empty Playground» is surely
not dedicated to everybody but those Polish musicians deliver intelligent
and interesting music.
