MAGNUM CARNAGE

«Evil Never Dies» + «Digital Wolves»

You never know quite what to expect from acts coming from exotic countries… even if at first, it may appear a little bit strange to speak about exotic when you have to listen to a band coming from the States. What we have here with this Magnum Carnage is quite a unique band coming from the fiftieth state from the USA. To be honest, I don’t know too many Hawaiian bands (Vixen and Hawaii being the sole exceptions). As identity goes, those strange boys are fairly well endowed and succeed in creating a very personal form of heavy death black metal. Magnum Carnage’s musical world is far beyond what I have the use to listen to (the drummer seems to be a little bit unexperimented and the keyboard lines are weird to my ears). I’m convinced that whatever I can write about both releases (recorded within 12 months) shall not give you the right impression. The production is not really professional and reminds me the «One Nation Underground» LP released by one of the first Marty Friedman project. The vocals are nothing less than strange, a kind of mid ranged death metal growl / scream style which eventually nicely suit the chaotic music delivered here (another reason to remind me the above mentioned Hawaii). No need for a fight, if you don’t have a very open mind and don’t enjoy creativity more than anything else then don’t give this one a go.
