Now this is interesting. Brutal as hell death metal!! The Italian
underground death metal scene already offers us good acts such as Nefas
or Natron for instance and this Mutilated Soul are for my opinion a
very nice surprise (I’ve never heard of this band before). There
is a definite similarity to American brutal death metal pioneers but
with Mutilated Soul things tend to get a bit more enthusiastic (that
what we get to hear on most of Cannibal Corpse, Incantation followers).
Of course, the majority of the themes encountered throughout those seven
songs (for a total playing time of almost twenty eight minutes) sounds
pretty standard but you shall also find some ultra enjoyable guitar
solo / riffs that nicely bring in the needed diversity. The ultra guttural
vocals are also quite conventional but they nicely the band’s
musical orientation. «Decomposition» isn’t a ground-breaking
album but unlike so many brutal American death metal releases, it don’t
suffer from a total lack of identity. Satisfaction guaranteed.
