No need to be a soothsayer to guess the kind of music played by this
one man project. Just take a look to the cover of «Stridsmenn»
and you shall directly understand the rules of the game here. This is
pure Norwegian Satanic Black Metal. The roots of Stridsmenn are actually
in the bands named Borgarholt and Austkrigar, Arnjeir (the musician
behind the project) mixed the spirits on those projects to create a
nice hybrid. «Stridsmenn» is thus black metal played in
the purest Norwegian vein and it absolutely got the spirit this kind
of black metal needs. Arnjeir combines the aggression delivered on Hoest
first album with a more depressive / folk approach such as encountered
on the fabulous «Trollskau, Skrømt og Kølabrenning»
released by Lars Jensen. I also found some musical similarities with
Enslaved’s black metal as Stridsmenn are able to combine a lot
of good depressive atmospheres with hypnotic frenetic riffs in interesting
ways and that’s maybe Arnjeir strongest side. Enough said, get
this if black metal means something for you. http://www.northern-silence.com
