«From The Lone Winters Cold»

Northern Silence Productions

This wasn’t really a surprise, and with that I mean the simple fact that «From The Lone Winters Cold» is a very good piece of black metal. The attention was attracted with the release of the EP «Autumnal Heavens» (also on Northern Silence Prod.) where one sensed that the Bavarian trio was on the right track. As often with the recordings emerging nowadays from the German underground scene, «From The Lone Winters Cold» doesn’t feel like something out of the ordinary but the band’s song-writing abilities are so obvious that the end result is almost perfect. There are clear Immortal (first era) influences and you can also find some Jon Nodtveidt-like riffing somewhere. Augrimmer musicians also manage to vary the pace and atmosphere a bit with the inclusion of nice ‘epic’ black metal bridges so the album doesn’t get boring even after repeated listens. If you like black metal with class (shadows of the Norwegian scene are continuously presents throughout the eight tracks) you should definitely buy this album.
